Tecate Announces Extended Temperature Range for TPLS Series13 Jan 2016
TPLS Ultracapacitors Now UL Recognized for Higher Temperatures
The Tecate Group, a leading global supplier of ultracapacitors and capacitors, announced UL recognition for higher temperature ratings of its TPLS series of PowerBurst® cylindrical, snap-in ultracapacitor cells. The new, enhanced TPLS series of PowerBurst ultracapacitors is UL810A recognized, 100% RoHS compliant, and now offers extended operating temperatures up to 85oC. Rapidly becoming designers’ preferred choice to supplement and in some cases replace batteries, these electrochemical double-layer capacitors (EDLCs) offer extremely low ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance) for high power and low loss during operation. The TPLS parts are maintenance-free, boast an extended 85oC-wide operating temperature range, and offer a high charge/discharge cycle life along with high useable capacity. These low-leakage-current ultracapacitors charge quickly and safely, and deliver frequent energy pulses without harmful effects or reduced life. The snap-in lead configuration makes these a great choice for high-vibration environments as well.
The TPLS series is optimal for use in storage, battery packs, wireless communications, mobile computing, and industrial applications. Among the parts’ most common employments are in RAID storage, smart grids, portable data terminals, peak-power shaving functions, and remote monitoring equipment. Moreover, Tecate’s PowerBurst ultracapacitors can be used in conjunction with batteries or other power sources when batteries alone do not meet performance objectives, such as holding or bridging power when the primary power source fails or when a battery is swapped out. They notably feature an operating temperature range of -40oC to +85oC at 2.3V, further making them a logical alternative to batteries in extended temperature applications.
The TPLS series is rated at 2.7V (-40oC to +65oC) and 2.3V (-40oC to +85oC) and is available in five specific capacitance values ranging from 100F to 400F. Custom sizes and capacitance values are available and are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. PowerBurst ultracapacitors feature a capacitance tolerance of -10% to +20%.
