Three-Electrode Spark Gaps
Our three-electrode spark gaps are fire-on-command devices. These comprise hermetically sealed gas-filled switches and are available with DC hold-off voltages ranging from 5 to 50 kV. Three-electrode spark gap applications include medical lithotripsy, crowbar circuits, high di/dt switches for laser firing and high energy switches.

GXG Series
The GXG Series of triggered three-electrode spark gaps are gas discharge tubes, hermetically sealed in a ceramic/metal envelope. Tubes with a DC hold-off voltage in the standard range 15 to 50 kV are available. Device breakdown voltage is signified by numerals (expressed in hundreds of volts) following the series type identifier: e.g. GXG350L has a 35 kV DC hold-off voltage capability. The operational voltage range for the GXG Series is 40% to 80% of DC hold-off voltage.
Typical Applications
- Medical lithotripsy
- Crowbar circuits
- High di/dt switching
- High voltage switches for laser firing
- High energy switches
GX3500 Series
The GX3500 Series of triggered three-electrode spark gaps are gas discharge tubes, hermetically sealed in a ceramic/metal envelope for use in air. Tubes with a DC hold-off voltage in the standard range 15 to 50 kV are available. Device breakdown voltage is signified by numerals (expressed in hundreds of volts) following the series type identifier: e.g. GX3500-400 has a 40 kV DC hold-off voltage capability. The operational voltage range for the GX3500 Series is 40% to 80% of DC hold-off voltage.
Typical Applications
- Crowbar circuits for high power travelling wave tubes, power klystrons and similar devices
- High voltage switches for laser firing
- General switching applications GXT Series
GXT/ GXTC Series
The GXT Series of triggered three-electrode spark gaps are gas discharge tubes, hermetically sealed in a ceramic/metal envelope. Tubes with a DC hold-off voltage in the standard range 5 to 38 kV are available.
Device breakdown voltage is signified by numerals (expressed in hundreds of volts) following the series type identifier: e.g. GXT250B has a 25 kV DC hold-off voltage capability. The operational voltage range for the GXT/ GXTC Series is 40% to 80% of DC hold-off voltage. For voltages above 10 Kv it is recommended that a GXT spark gap is immersed in insulating fluid or that a GXTC spark gap is used.
Typical Applications
- Medical lithotripsy
- Crowbar circuits
- High di/dt switching
- High voltage switches for laser firing
- High energy switches
- General switching applications
