HVR Resistors
HVR International Limited is a world leader manufacturer of the widest range of non-inductive ceramic carbon resistors available. HVR Resistors or High Voltage Resistors has been produced since 1963 under the name of Morganite Resistors. In this time HVR pioneered the development of Resistors to replace products in EHV switchgear. Nowadays, electric transmission systems worldwide utilize HVR ceramic carbon resistors in this application. The Range of the HVR resistors ranges from Joules to Mega Joules. The scope and continuing policy is to pursue a market which demands the highest voltage and energy per unit volume.

Ceramic Carbon Resistor distributor
As the distributor of HVR’s Ceramic Carbon Resistors we can offer you the following Ceramic Carbon Resistor types.
High voltage resistors
HVR’s range of High Voltage Resistors for Compact Circuitry are manufactured from a carefully selected mixture of clays, alumina and carbon. After blending, the material is pressed to the required shape and then fired, in a controlled atmosphere, at high temperature. This sintering process produces a Ceramic Carbon resistor which is 100% active material and therefore of minimum size. The H.V. Resistors for Compact Circuitry range feature radial lead terminations and a high quality epoxy resin coating to improve both dielectric withstand and mechanical robustness. Inherently non-inductive and capable of withstanding transient high voltage impulses, this range is ideally suited to charging, discharge, snubber, voltage divider and overvoltage protection applications. These typical applications feature within high voltage power supplies, lasers, radar, medical and military equipment.
RT-RL resistors
The RT / RL series of non inductive, ceramic composite resistors are ideal for circuitry associated with surges, high peak power or high energy, replacing carbon composition resistors which can be difficult to source.
Ceramic Resistor Assemblies
Ceramic Carbon Resistors can be offered separately, in matched sets with respect to Resistance Value, or pre-assembled for ease of installation. Resistor Discs can also be supplied in stacks, marked..
Linear disc resistors
HVR Linear Disc Resistors are manufactured from a carefully blended mixture of clays, alumina and carbon. After blending, the material is pressed to the required shape, with diameters ranging from 3 to 150mm. The Resistors are then fired at high temperature in a tunnel kiln with controlled atmosphere. This produces a Ceramic Carbon Resistor which is 100% active material and therefore of minimum size. Aluminium is then flame-sprayed onto the flat surfaces of the resistor to provide electrical contact, and an anti-track coating is applied to the periphery to improve dielectric withstand. With the capability of sustaining energies ranging from Joules to Mega-Joules, at frequencies up to Mega-Hz, HVR Linear Disc Resistors can be used in even the most demanding applications such as electrical transmission, traction, AC/DC drives, pulse power, dummy loads, induction heating and pulse forming networks.
Stud mounted resistors
The Stud Mounted Range offers a compact, cost-effective solution for use in high energy charge and discharge applications.
Surge resistors
The SR Series of Surge Resistors for PCB mounting are manufactured from a carefully selected mixture of clays, alumina and carbon. After blending, the material is pressed to the required shape and then fired, in a controlled atmosphere, at high temperature. This sintering process produces a Ceramic Carbon Resistor which is 100% active material and therefore of minimum size. The SR Series feature Gold Plated Brass spring pin terminations for ease of assembly into Printed Circuit Boards (PCB’s). Dielectric withstand and mechanical robustness are enhanced by the UL94 V-0 approved epoxy resin coating. Compact in size and with high surge energy rating, the modular SR Series is designed to provide the optimum solution to many Power Electronics applications; notably soft starting the DC link capacitors in Switch Mode Power Supplies. Inherently non-inductive and capable of withstanding transient high voltage impulses, the SR Series is similarly effective with respect to overvoltage protection and crowbar discharge applications.
